NEW DELHI: In a first for an Indian carrier, IndiGo has reached a landmark of a plane taking off every minute of the day. The low cost carrier — which started operations less than 14 years ago in August 2006 — now operates 1,500 flights and flies over 2.5 lakh people everyday across its network of 60 domestic and 23 international destinations. It has 250 planes in its fleet with over 600 still on order and yet to join the fleet at the rate of one per week for next 13-14 years.
IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta said: “We are very pleased to be the first Indian airline to touch 1500 daily departures, with one flight taking off every minute … Flying over 2.5 lakh customers every day, we are on a mission to promote trade, tourism and economic growth by increasing mobility and accessibility across the length and breadth of the country. (This) has been an eventful year with many new partnerships, orders and milestones. We are optimistic about 2020, and our endeavour will be to build focus cities and traffic corridors that connect India to the world.”
