Carmakers Tata Motors, MG Motor India and Mahindra & Mahindra are narrowing the price gap between their electric vehicles and petrol and diesel models amid softening battery prices, but luxury carmakers do not expect such price parity any time soon.
That is mainly because luxury battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are mostly imported into India, attracting up to 100% tax, and their sales volumes are too low to make local assembling viable for most models, industry executives and analysts said.
