Sembcorp Energy India (SEIL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, on Friday said it has won a bid for a new 400 megawatt (MW) solar power project in Rajasthan.
It added that the bid was won through its renewables subsidiary, Sembcorp Green Infra, in an auction conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
The firm said that the solar project in Rajasthan is expected to be ready for commercial operation by mid-2022 and added that it will be funded through a mixture of internal funds and debt.
SEIL has received the letter of award from SECI to develop the project in Rajasthan connected to the state’s transmission utility Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam. The project’s entire output will be sold to SECI under a 25-year long-term power purchase agreement, according to a press release.
“India is a key market for Sembcorp, where we will continue to contribute to the nation’s clean energy mission. With this win, we have moved into our next phase of growth,” said Vipul Tuli, chief executive officer – South Asia, Sembcorp.
With this win, the firm now has a renewables portfolio of over 3,000 MW in operation and under development across Singapore, China and India.
