Vijayawada: In a bid to modernise bus stations across the state, Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) to launch a pilot project at Tirupati along with Andhra Pradesh State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation (APSEEDCO).
The project will be implemented in a phased manner in all 128 depots and 10 major bus stations.
The modernisation project is aimed at introducing energy efficiency measures which will ease financial burden by way of reducing consumption, said the energy department in a statement on Sunday. APSRTC is using about 30 million units of power every year and spending about Rs 28 crore for the same. The energy efficiency measures include replacing all incandescent bulbs and conventional tube lights with Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights, inefficient fans and old air conditioners with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) star rated appliances. Replacing all old appliances not only reduce cost on power consumption but also enhance the visual appeal of the bus stations the statement said.
