Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has stressed the need to have continuous investment in construction of highways besides the flagship programme of Bharatmala along with upgrade of 1,25,000 km of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana with an estimated expenditure of Rs 80,250 crore over the next five years.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has got an increased capital allocation of Rs 72,058 crore, up by 21 per cent Budget estimate of Rs 59,440 crore of the last financial year. The focus will be to encourage faster adoption of electric vehicles. — TNS
