A total of 41 under-construction hydro power projects above 25 MW with a combined capacity of 11,792 MW are running behind schedule. The total cost overrun for these projects is estimated to be Rs 45,241 cr. This has nearly doubled the total cost of these projects to over Rs 1.03 lakh cr. Law and order, local agitation, bad geology, flash floods, water ingress, delayed forest and environment clearance and land acquisition have been identified as reasons for delayed projects.
