Total outstanding dues owed by electricity distribution companies (discoms) to power producers stands at Rs 114,963 cr at the end of December 2021, compared to Rs 114,823 cr in January 2021. Though the total increase is only Rs 140 cr, but Maharashtra tops the list with Rs 21,274 cr dues (up Rs 9,298 cr compared to January 2021), followed by Tamil Nadu at Rs 20,059 cr (down by Rs 2,747 cr), Rajasthan at Rs 12,369 cr (up by Rs 1,429 cr). Only Uttar Pradesh has significantly reduced its outstanding by Rs 7,703 cr, to Rs 10,350 cr.
