When potholes appear, people should know who made those roads with their money. This idea has been floated by Chandigarh Mayor Anup Gupta in an effort to seek transparency in road recarpeting by feeding in a mobile app the name of the sub-divisional engineer, junior engineer concerned along with the contractor and completion details of the roads.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Mayor Gupta said, “At least people should know when their funds (public money) are being used in the making of a road. They should be able to hold the official concerned accountable. They should know which SDE or JE approved that road or the contractor who made that road. Apart from we people and officials, it is important that the public should also know who is to be held responsible if the road is developing potholes or cracks within a few months.”
