A large number of employees blocked the Ropar-Chandigarh highway for four hours today after one of their colleagues was electrocuted while on duty here.
While the police had registered a case, the employees alleged negligence on part of the authorities concerned and demanded action against erring officials, besides Rs 50 lakh in compensation along with a government job for a member of the bereaved family.
Jaswinder Singh, son of deceased Kuldeep Singh (48), claimed his father had been employed on a contract basis for the past seven years. Yesterday, he was repairing the power lines atop an electricity pole when the supply was restored, leading to his electrocution. Kuldeep’s body was found on the ground near the pole in the evening.
