MUMBAI: Reliance Industries (RIL) along with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) will build a petrochemicals plant in UAE’s largest emirate, the Indian company said on Tuesday. This will be RIL’s first investment in a greenfield petchem project outside of India. In 2012, it had acquired BP’s petchem plant in Malaysia for $230 million.
The petchem plant in Abu Dhabi’s Al Ruwais city will produce chlor-alkali, ethylene dichloride and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Chloralkali is used in water treatment and in the manufacture of textiles and metals. Ethylene dichloride is used to produce PVC, which has a wide range of applications across housing, infrastructure and consumer goods.
