CHENNAI: Tension prevailed at Thiruvottiyur railway station on Tuesday as hundreds of passengers travelling to many north-eastern states illegally occupied the coaches meant for reserved passengers in an Assam bound train.
Despite stiff opposition from the passengers who had reserved their tickets, they continued to travel in the train. The reserved compartments were filled to the brim and there was no space to even move an inch. After efforts to alight them from the reserved coaches failed, some of the girl students in the compartment lodged a complaint with railway officials.
When the train reached Thiruvottiyur, the train was brought to a halt and the squad managed to evict the passengers who were illegally travelling in the reserved coaches.
