MUMBAI: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has been told to fix potholes and address safety related issues on the Palghar district stretch of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway within three weeks.
The highway has come into prominence after the death of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry in an accident at Charoti on the highway on September 4. Palghar superintendent of police (SP) Balasaheb Patil on Monday held a meeting with officials of NHAI, Public Works Department (PWD) and road contractors. In the meeting, 15 black spots, where accidents are known to occur frequently, were identified. The SP told NHAI officers to identify and stop unauthorized road cuttings on the highway. Putting up signboards, road studs, rumble strippers, delineators and blinkers have to be taken up on an urgent basis, the police officer informed the highway authorities.
The increasing number of potholes on the highway was taken up for discussion.
