The government has released the draft of “National Renewable Energy Act 2015” for public consultation. Through this, it seeks to put the renewable energy schemes on fast track by mandating renewable generation, its purchase and payments to the generators. It also permits tariff-bundling of renewable power with conventional power. Besides, it proposes to create a company called Renewable Energy Corporation of India (RECI) that would act as a national level RE procurement entity, and support development of Renewable Energy Investment Zones across the country. All these are welcome moves.
