NEW DELHI: New capacity addition of non-hydro renewable energy increased 80% to 3.4GW in the December quarter from 1.9GW installed in the year-ago period, according to the latest market report from CEEW Centre for Energy Finance (CEEW-CEF).
Sequentially, however, new non-hydro renewable capacity additions declined 27% in the period under review from the September quarter on account of intensifying supply chain constraints.
Solar energy made up 92% of the total renewable capacity added during the third quarter, driven partly by a 142% rise in rooftop installations totalling 700MW. This growth in new capacity was registered in spite of solar module prices rising 40% to Rs 21/Watt-peak over 2020.
Overall, in terms of net capacity additions, renewable energy formed 75% of the total 4.5GW capacity added — net of 900 MW, which were converted to captive mode – during the period. Coal-based power generation capacity of 2,095 MW was added in Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Bihar.
