Sections of solar equipment manufacturers and battery recyclers are teaming up to provide used batteries a second life in solar applications. Recyclers told ET that the Centre’s renewed incentive for rooftop solarisation, as well as the continued focus on Electric Vehicle policies was instrumental in the collaboration.
Bengaluru-based Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery recycler, BatX Energies co-founder Vikrant Singh said the depleted batteries came with reduced range which was risky for most EV owners. “If the battery is about 20% depleted, that is the end of its life as far as an EV is concerned. We then repurpose that battery into stationary applications,” he told ET.
