NEW DELHI: State-run Coal India Ltd’s production shot up by 29% to almost 160 million tonnes (MT) in the quarter ended June, a development that will boost fuel inventories at power plants and avert shortage when monsoon peaks to disrupt supply.
In terms of volume, the production was 35.8 MT more than 124 MT dug out in the previous corresponding period on the back of all the subsidiaries registering growth, the world’s largest coal miner said on Friday.
Higher production also buoyed supplies to power plants by 20%, while total offtake rose by 11%, the company said.
