Indian Railways aims to gradually reduce usage of fossil fuel-generated electricity for its non-traction loads by up to 630 million units by 2029-30, equivalent to 0.51 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions, according to its energy efficiency plan.
This is while considering 25% energy savings through retrofitting of 10-15% of existing load every year, along with new buildings that are constructed to better adopt energy efficiency practises under plans to be a net-zero carbon emitter by 2030, officials told ET, requesting not to be named.
