More than 70 officers and jawans of the Chandigarh-based 1101 Railway Engineers’ Regiment Territorial Army (TA) have moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging the order to disband the regiment along with four other similar regiments.
The petitioners have argued that these TA Railway Regiments provide crucial back-up to the Army to keep strategic railway routes functional in times of internal and external emergencies and railway strikes. The 1101 Railway Engineers’ Regiment (TA) is responsible for maintaining the railway link between Punjab and J&K, both strategically important regions.
