NEW DELHI: The Railway Board has ordered the closure of the Indian Railway Stations Development Co (IRSDC), which was set up for redevelopment of railway stations across the country in March 2012. IRSDC is the second organisation under the railway ministry that has been shut down in the past 45 days as a part of the government’s move to close down or merge multiple organisations under different ministries.
In a communication to all general managers across zones on Monday, the Railway Board said the stations managed by the IRSDC will now be handed over to the respective zonal railways and the corporation will pass on all project-related documents to them, who will be responsible for further development. It has asked the IRSDC to initiate the formalities for the closure of the corporation.
One of the major redevelopment projects which the corporation has initiated is the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai.
