Qatar Airways lifted its stake in British Airways-owner IAG to 20.01 per cent from 15.67 per cent, saying it had no plans to increase its shareholding further unless the situation changed materially.
Qatar Airways, which first invested in IAG about 18 months ago, said on Monday that while its interest was purely financial, it reflected the strength of the commercial and strategic ties between the companies.
“The recent market valuation of one of the world’s leading airline groups has provided what we believe is an attractive opportunity to increase our shareholding in IAG,” said Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker in a statement.
