NEW DELHI: Following objections to its proposal to hand over the repair and maintenance of its roads, pavements and central verge to one private player for 10 years at one go, the Public Works Department has decided to check the feasibility of the plan by conducting pilot projects.
Instead of one comprehensive repair and maintenance project, the PWD will now take up roads, footpaths and horticulture belts separately and engage private agencies to repair and maintain them.
