The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Saturday said it would launch a state-wide mass movement (Lok Lehar) if Congress government in Punjab scrapped the free power facility for farmers. This was decided in a meeting of the party’s core committee chaired by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal. The SAD also demanded a comprehensive package for the poor sections by the Punjab government.
“The Congress government has showered its bounty on the rich and the corrupt including Rs 676 crore for the liquor contractors and Rs 84 crore for land mining mafia, but has not given a penny to farmers, labourers, domestic power consumers or the industry”, said the party core committee.
