Despite the Punjab Government paying Rs 20,000 crore fixed charges to three private thermal plants and CM Capt Amarinder Singh asking the Finance Department to spare Rs 500 crore to buy additional power, the electricity supply situation has been erratic in the state, leading to unscheduled cuts lasting several hours.
Not only villages and agriculture feeders, even urban areas have been facing outages. While farmers in several parts of Malwa have been holding protests against the non-availability of power to irrigate fields, cities like Patiala, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Bathinda, Mohali and Jalandhar faced several unscheduled cuts today.
