After initial resistance, some opposition-ruled states have had to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel in the wake of the BJP and NDA- ruled states announcing the reduction taking a cue from the Centre’s decision to roll back excise duty on fuel prices on the eve of Diwali. Congress-ruled Punjab reduced VAT on Sunday while Odisha had taken the decision reportedly after some initial reluctance.
