From today, April 1, electricity will get costlier in Maharashtra as the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has allowed power distribution companies like BEST, TATA Power, MSEDCL and Adani to hike the power tariff. The hike was allowed following an increase in fuel cost, a shortfall in revenue due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, an increase in transmission system costs etc. Here’s what is in store for consumers:
MSEDCL: A 2.9% hike for 2023-24, 5.6% for 2024-25
The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd (MSEDCL), a distribution licensee catering to a large consumer base across Maharashtra, including some areas in Mumbai, has revised the overall average tariff by 2.9 per cent for the financial year (FY) 2023-24 and by 5.6 per cent for FY 2024-25.
