The number of power outages in Mumbai over the past few weeks of the summer has increased compared with previous years, and the primary cause has been “cable damage” due to ongoing infrastructure works as the city undergoes a grand makeover.
Officials from city power utility firms told Mumbai Mirror that the electricity cables were damaged mainly due to road repairs, Metro, or other infrastructure work and such cases have increased by 7-10% this summer (April-May) as compared to the same period last year.
On a few occasions, it was the substation tripping or technical fault in a transmission line at Aarey, but in a large number of outages lately, the cables were damaged, officials pointed out.
