Is the power generation in the country on decline? The answer is yes. But, has the decline reached to alarming levels. The answer is no.
Amidst reports on power generation decline, we carried out analysis and found that in the last nine months (January to September) in 2019, the power generation from conventional sources (Thermal, Nuclear, Hydro, Bhutan Imports) declined by 2.40 per cent compared to the same period last year (2018) (see table-1 & chart-1 at pg 22). However, during this period, the generation from renewable energy has gone up by 10.06 per cent (see table-2 at pg 23 & chart-2 at pg 22).
