Private power generators have filed for intervention in the Supreme Court in an ongoing matter on issues related to election freebies.
The writ petition filed by the Association of Power Producers (APP) sought the court’s intervention “in the financially crippling crisis faced on account of the untrammeled resort to populist schemes and unjustified freebies being announced by competing political parties for electoral gains far beyond the budgetary constraints of the State and limits imposed by the Fiscal Responsibility & Budget Management Act, 2003 and Rules, 2004.”
