CHENNAI: T Nagar has smart meters that make the job easier for Tangedco workers with respect to meter reading, disconnection and reconnection. But several consumers have rued that they are deprived of a basic facility to be alerted about power cuts through SMS.
The SMS-for-outages is not a new initiative, but a well-established system that has taken a backseat. “Tangedco used to send out SMS to consumers even when sudden power cuts took place. Why have such consumer-friendly measures been given up by Tangedco,” asked T Jayaraman of T Nagar residents welfare Association.
