The debt-ridden Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) is set to lose its revenue following Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) move to partially retract its own decision. The decision could make the PSPCL poorer by Rs 500 crore per annum which means that this additional burden will have to be passed on to “domestic and commercial consumers” who are already paying higher power rates and taxes.
The PSERC in its recent tariff order for 2019-20 has decided that henceforth billet heaters having contract demand up to 100 KVA shall not be considered as power intensive unit (PIU) load. Billet heating systems are basically induction heaters used to heat metals prior to making hand tools through high-efficiency, electro-magnetically heating coils used in all forms of induction heating heavy industry.
