The commuters had never suffered as much as they are forced to suffer ever since the time the project of six-laning of the National Highway number 1 has materialised. In an attempt to make the National Highway user worthy, the service lanes down there have been reduced to mere non-metalled roads embedded with potholes, deep ditches and rain water stagnating everywhere.
“There is simply no system left. There is no one to listen to our problems. We don’t know who can make the authorities realise the day-to-day agony we have to bear while getting stranded in traffic jams which frequently happen because of the deep ditches and potholes. People have suffered innumerable times. Is not the National Highway Authority of India or the so-called contractor responsible for the injuries suffered on account of the badly conditioned service lanes?” rued a highly frustrated commuter.
