Stepping-up its crime prevention and traffic regulation activities, the Salem city police is planning to install Number Plate Recognition (NPR) cameras at various places along the highway stretch here.
According to officials, the police is planning to install 16 cameras at various places to identify all incoming and outgoing vehicles in the region. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) C. Shyamala Devi said that the cameras would be set up at Mohan Nagar near Steel plant, Toll plaza and Uthamasolapuram.
Ms. Shyamala Devi said that the NPR cameras would help in monitoring all incoming and outgoing vehicles in the region and it would also help in improving crime prevention. The police has also introduced various initiatives to reduce accident rates in the city.
