KOLKATA: Residents of at least 15 high-rises off Bypass and in New Town will get piped natural gas (PNG) ahead of Bengali New Year. Bengal Gas company, the entity authorised to supply CNG and PNG to Greater Kolkata, has already installed piped gas infrastructure in three big complexes — Urbana, Uniworld City and Rosedel. It couldn’t start supply as some permissions were pending. Now housings like Udita, Abhishikta will have PNG network soon.
Kolkata is the only metro not having piped natural gas. The head (marketing and commercial) of Bengal Gas, Pankaj Kumar Biswas, said by end of this fiscal, PNG service would start in more than a dozen complexes. “Pipeline infrastructure is ready in three big housings. We are laying pipelines in 9-10 more complexes,” he added. Biswas was at a seminar organised by FICCI.
The company is bringing natural gas in tankers from Durgapur for CNG stations in the city which will now be used for PNG as well. Biswas said the city has seven CNG stations now and by end of this year, it would have four more.
