PMUY

The government has achieved a target of providing 8 crore LPG connections to BPL families under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). The scheme is aimed to safeguard the health of women and children by providing them with a clean cooking fuel LPG, so that they do not have to compromise their health in smoky kitchens or wander in unsafe areas for collecting firewood.

The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, 2016 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. Initially, the target was to provide 5 crore LPG connections in 3 years, which was later enhanced to 8 crore. Besides, the subsidized domestic cylinder, a support of Rs 1,600 per connection is also provided.
