Batting for raising the minimum age of marriage for women to 21 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday said that it will give them sufficient time to complete their studies and plan a career.
“We have decided that the age of marriage of daughters should also be the same as the age at which sons are allowed to marry. The marriage age being raised to 21 years for daughters will give them full time to study and they will also be able to make their career,” said Modi.
Addressing a public meeting at Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi town, the Prime Minister said the government was working on granting rights to daughters that are equal to those for sons. “Beta-beti ek saman (sons and daughters are equal),” said Modi.
