Petrol and diesel sales in May crashed by about 30% from the same month in 2019 as the second Covid-19 wave prompted wider lockdowns, curbing mobility and economic activity.
Most states followed lockdowns as governments struggled to deal with the surge in Covid-19 cases in May when India recorded the highest monthly count of infections and deaths due to it. The country reported 9,030,000 Covid-19 cases and 120,000 deaths in May.
