TUMAKURU: Residents of villages and localities in the 16.5-km Peenya-Nelamangala corridor are up in arms after the Karnataka Power Transmission Power Corporation Limited began work on upgrading a high-power transmission line along the stretch.
KPTCL is upgrading the existing 220 KV DC line into 400 KV multiple circuit line as part of its plan to establish 2×500 MVA, 400/220kV substation in Peenya in place of the existing 220/66kV SRS Peenya substation. The line that is being replaced passes through Nelamangala, Danojipalya, Arashinakunte, Shivanapura, Geejagadahalli, Narayanpalya, Domarahalli, Thippenahalli, Indirangara, Kote Cross, Doddabidarkallu, Nelagadaranahalli and Peenya II Stage, among others.
The new project details were gazetted on March 24, 2021. The project seeks to reduce power losses, save energy and minimise problems like low voltage and interruptions in power supply.
