New Delhi: The year 2022 saw Delhi breaking several past records of power consumption, as it was after a gap of two consecutive years that the city saw a year free of most Covid-related restrictions. November and December months saw the city’s peak power demand being more than that of previous two years.
A senior discom official said that the peak power demand in December 2022 was 4,964 MW, while it was 4,685 MW in December 2021 and 4,671 MW in the last month of 2020. In November 2022, it was 3,941 MW, while it was 3,831 MW in the month the previous year, and 3,769 MW in November 2020.
Delhiites consumed half the power during the two Covid waves in 2021 than during the corresponding periods in 2022. According to discoms’ data, the peak power consumption in summers was 7,695 MW in 2022, 7,323 MW in 2021 and 6,314 MW in 2020. In 2019, the peak summer demand was 7,409 MW, which was more than that of 2020 and 2021.
