MUMBAI: Peak power demand in Mumbai broke an all-time record to touch 4,129MW on Friday, sources said. The last peak demand recorded was a day earlier at 3,984MW and prior to that on June 1 at 3,971MW. The demand shot up by 145MW in a day.
The Trombay thermal plant generation during peak demand was 724MW, while Tata Power’s peak demand also rose to a record 1003MW for 15 minutes on Friday afternoon. However, officials said that they had a backup of 1,400MW to supply to consumers across the island city and suburbs, which is why there was no shortfall.
