CHENNAI: Commuters had to hop across tracks to board a suburban train to Chennai at Ponneri railway station on Gummidipoondi-Chennai line after station staff made a mistake in announcing platform number of an approaching train.
The train arrived at a different platform and people had to jump off the main platform, cross the track and climb onboard the train at around 8.35am. Many missed the train.
“The station master announced that the suburban train from Gummidipoondi will arrive at platform four. But it arrived at platform 3. This made the people cross the tracks and board the train. As there are no steps, people had to struggle to get into the coaches,” said Prathap, a frequent commuter from the railway station.
