NEW DELHI: The punctuality of mail and express trains has come down to 73% till mid August of the current financial year, around 11% less than the same period last year. The speed of freight trains has also fallen to 27.5 kmph during this period compared to 32.4 kmph while the total freight loading has increased marginally by 1% to touch 558 million tonnes.
Railway officials said this is due to more focus on maintenance of tracks and giving adequate blocks for carrying out new and maintenance works. “There is no compromise with regard to ensuring proper blocks for taking up any work on our network.
