A passenger on the Chennai-bound Pothigai Express Sunday suffered head injury after unidentified assailants hurled stones at the train near Thirumangalam in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai district, the police said.
According to officials, the Pothigai Express train left Sengottai on Sunday evening. When the train was crossing the Maravankulam area near Thirumangalam, the passengers who were travelling in the general compartment heard noises of objects hitting against the windows, they said. “During that time one passenger identified as Muthuselvi, 29, of Kadayanallur in Tenkasi suffered an injury on the head and another passenger sustained a minor bruise after they were allegedly attacked by unknown assailants who hurled stones,” said an officer.
