Kolkata: The high-level committee under the chief secretary has agreed on the proposal to shut Chingrighata flyover on a temporary basis for its “unsafe” and “unstable” structural condition. The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA), the custodian of the flyover, has been asked to take urgent measures to prevent any possible collapse of the flyover as feared by bridge experts.
Earlier on July 21, the bridge advisory committee, appointed by the state, had recommended the shutting down of the flyover for further inspections, stating that the flyover was found to be in a precarious condition with severe structural distress.
