One of our biggest achievements is 18% reduction in average power tariff: Adani Electricity

Adani Electricity, which completed three years of operations in Mumbai on Thursday, considers one of its biggest achievements so far being “reduction in power tariff” for its 30 lakh consumers based in suburbs.

“Adani’s proposal for an average 18% tariff reduction was approved by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission in March 2020 and now the low power tariffs are in effect. This is a huge benefit for a cross-section of consumers -residential, commercial and industry,” said a spokesperson.

Recounting the benefits availed for consumers in the past 3 years, the spokesperson added,”The electricity distribution losses in the suburbs fell from 11% to 7.3% lately as we curbed power thefts, consumer complaints dropped by 38% as per our records, and we are now setting up self-help kiosks for customers every 2 square km in the city.”

On completing three years, Adani Electricity also announced it will procure 60% of energy requirement from renewable energy sources by 2027. This comes on the heels of Adani promoting ‘green tariff’ (supplying power from renewable sources) for its consumers, especially high-end corporations and industries, recently.

Those opting for a green tariff get electricity supplied from renewable sources for an additional tariff of 66 paise per unit over normal rates.

Till date, over 400 consumers, mainly corporates comprising those from IT, bank, and other sectors, have approached Adani for green power.

“We want to switch to green energy as much as possible, and by 2023, we have targeted procuring 30% of our energy requirement from renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydro, etc. This target will increase to 60% by 2027,” an official said.

Officials also plan to expedite the installation of 7 lakh smart meters by March 2022. The smart meters allow you to access domestic power consumption anytime, anywhere using a mobile app. You can check consumption on an hourly, daily, or monthly basis. You will also be able to know your projected monthly usage and compare your monthly usage with that of the last 12 months and can also compare your consumption with your peers or neighbours, an official said. Besides eliminating manual meter reading, smart meters are also expected to reduce instances of electricity theft.
