NEW DELHI: State-run NTPC and power gear maker BHEL have formed a joint venture to build the world’s cleanest generation unit of 800 MW capacity to demonstrate the home-grown advanced ultra-super critical technology that will reduce carbon dioxide emission by 20%.
The new plant will be built at NTPC’s existing power plant in Sipat, Chhattisgarh. The technology has been developed by a consortium of NTPC, BHEL and IGCAR (Indira Gandhi Centre of Atomic Research) since 2010.
“The technology marks a significant improvement in operational parameters over contemporary super critical technology. There will be many intangible benefits in terms of large number of spin-off technologies being developed, development of a large cadre of technologists, building confidence in home-grown technologies among others,” NTPC said in a statement.
