NTPC, BHEL in JV for 800-mw new technology power plant

NTPC Ltd on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding to float a joint venture to set up 800 mw technology demonstration plant at NTPC’s existing power plant in Sipat, Chhattisgarh.

The demonstration plant will be based on the advanced ultra super critical technology which marks a significant improvement in operational parameters over contemporary supercritical technology.

“The plant shall be the most efficient power plant in the world, once it becomes operational, resulting in reduction of carbon-dioxide emission by about 20% as compared to the conventional sub-critical technology,” an official statement said.

The technology demonstration full scale plant will help in fulfilment of the nationally determined contributions by India as part of the Paris Climate Agreement.
