New Delhi: After Jet’s domestic slots, the government will soon give the grounded airline’s international flying rights temporarily to other Indian carriers. Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, GoAir and Vistara (which is shortly going to commence foreign operations) attended a meeting called by aviation secretary P S Kharola on Friday. Since AirAsia India has not yet been allowed to go abroad, it was not at this deliberation. The demand is for Jet’s now-unutilised flying rights for the Gulf (mainly Dubai), southeast Asia (especially Thailand and Singapore) and London-Europe.
The meeting saw some interesting moments with Vistara reportedly seeking flying rights on the grounds that it is a young airline and must get a chance to grow. Private airline barons at the meeting — IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir promoters Rahul Bhatia, Ajay Singh and Jeh Wadia — had their own repartee.
