MUMBAI: Passengers gave mixed reactions about safety vis-a-vis the presence of armed escorts in both long-distance and local trains in the wake of July 31 incident on the Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express where a Railway Protection Force constable gunned down four people.
While some said that the presence of a cop was comforting and an isolated incident did not impact their trust in security forces, others pointed out that their faith had been shaken and a mental health check-up was a must for personnel using arms. Government Railway Police (GRP) and home guards escort women’s coaches of local trains between 9 pm and 6 am.
