The Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) on Tuesday announced that trial runs at the Jewar airport are expected to commence by the end of June, with approximately 80% of phase one of the project completed. NIAL is responsible for overseeing the construction of the greenfield Noida international airport in Jewar.
Officials familiar with the matter stated that NIAL in a meeting held last week, briefed the Uttar Pradesh government that the runway has been finished and overall, 80% of the project’s work is now completed.
“We have informed the Uttar Pradesh government that the other required facilities, including technical equipment, will be installed in the next three months or so. We aim to start trial runs on the runway either by June-end or July beginning. Our target is to start flight operations at the airport by end-September 2024,” Arun Vir Singh, CEO of NIAL said.
NIAL also informed the UP government that approximately Rs 7371.51 crore out of the Rs 10,056 crore budget has been expended on the greenfield airport thus far.
NIAL officials also informed that the flight-related equipment will be installed on the runway and at the air traffic control (ATC) tower in April 2024. According to the NIAL officials, most of the civil work on the ATC is complete, with finishing touches currently underway.
Furthermore, the state government has directed the local agencies, including Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) and NIAL, to construct a Metro line to provide connectivity to and from Noida airport to the rest of Delhi/NCR. Yeida has already engaged the services of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to prepare a detailed project report to conduct a feasibility study, officials revealed.
In addition to the Metro and road connectivity, officials stated that the state is exploring the possibility of implementing a pod taxi system and a rapid rail corridor to link the airport with the rest of NCR.
