In a significant move towards enhancing operational efficiency and reducing environmental impact, Noida International Airport (NIA) has teamed up with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to establish a dedicated aviation turbine fuel (ATF) pipeline. The pipeline, stretching 34 kilometers from BPCL’s Piyala Terminal to NIA’s tank farm, was formalized through an agreement signed on Monday.
The pact, aimed at streamlining fuel supply and minimizing carbon emissions, was signed by BPCL’s Chief General Manager, Marketing (Aviation) Sujit Kumar, and NIA’s Chief Financial Officer Nitu Samra. The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Biju Gopinath, Executive Director (Pipelines), BPCL, and Kiran Jain, Chief Operating Officer, NIA, among others.
This infrastructure project, which includes a 1.2-kilometer segment within airport premises, will operate on a common or contract carrier basis. It underscores NIA’s commitment to environmental stewardship by significantly reducing the need for tank lorry movements, thereby lowering emissions.
Sukhmal Jain, Director (Marketing), BPCL said, “BPCL has been the pioneers in setting up ATF facilities at the airports and allied infrastructure in India since the time the aviation industry took off in the country.” He reiterated BPCL’s dedication to sustainable practices and reducing roadway fuel transportation.
Echoing the commitment to sustainability, Kiran Jain, NIA said, “We are pleased to collaborate with BPCL for the development of a common-use fuel transportation pipeline, which aligns with our strategic vision of offering cost-efficient and sustainable solutions that are more economical for the transportation of liquid fuels compared to road transport.”
The initiative is expected to enhance the efficiency of fuel usage at the airport while setting a benchmark for sustainable infrastructure development in India’s aviation sector.
